I love this time of year. The final weeks of every year are a time when we look back and look forward. At this point that means reflecting on 2014, thanking God for all He did and is doing, and looking forward to the amazing things ahead in 2015.
In recent months we have been in dialogue with Western Seminary in Portland. We have a few pastors currently enrolled in degree programs there, and a few of our members and leaders are Western grads. Western is a great seminary. One of the major reasons is their heart to come alongside local churches and work to equip their leaders to advance the gospel in their communities.
Here is the big news: We have recently entered into an official partnership agreement with Western, which will take the form of some exciting initiatives being launched at LPC in 2015. The agreement is intended to promote partnership between the church and the seminary to help develop leaders for the LPC’s ministry.
This agreement will manifest in 2 specific ways in the coming months.
First, Western has generously agreed to give a significant tuition discount to members who volunteer at LPC or serve on the church staff. This discount is in the ballpark of 30%, which is a phenomenal opportunity for members of LPC who are praying about pursuing theological education. To find out more about the Western degree programs, you can visit their website.
Second, Western is providing us with seminary-level content that we can use to bring biblical and theological training to our people. Through a partnership with Western’s Center for Leadership Development (CLD), we will be launching courses early in 2015 (offered on Sunday mornings), that will train the people of LPC in a number of areas relating to leadership, theology, and biblical studies. As it develops, we see this taking the form of specific training for Life Group leaders, future elders and ministry team leaders, and members seeking to get equipped for ministry as LifePoint Church.
Stay tuned for more information on this exciting relationship with Western, including the courses that will begin early next year.
