The finishing touches are being applied to the Christmas decorations throughout the church facility this afternoon as I type this blog. If you are avoiding the Christmas spirit, you may be shocked into holiday cheer if you show up this weekend (fair warning). We have an exciting month ahead of us here at LifePoint. For those who asked for a music pastor on your Amazon wish list (was I the only one?), Pastor Tyler Clarensau has entered the building and will be leading music this weekend.
Here are some of the Christmas happenings at LPC this December:
Saturday morning, December 1: Want to start the Christmas season through reaching out? Meet at Pacific Middle School for Walk and Knock, an outreach we’re taking part in through teaming with groups throughout our city. Proceeds will benefit the Clark County Food Bank.
Sunday morning, December 2 @ 9 and 11am: The Christmas season rolls in as When God Came Down begins with a message entitled “The Good News Gift.” Music will be led by Pastor Tyler, including a cool rendition of “Be Thou My Vision.” Do I need to say “you don’t want to miss this?”
Sunday night, December 2 @ 6pm: The ladies of LifePoint will gather for their annual Christmas Gala. Music, dessert, Christmasly-decorated-tables (what could be better!); and scores of husbands staying home with the kids while trying to catch Sunday Night Football on NBC. Tis. The. Season.
Sunday morning, December 9 @ 9 and 11am: When God Came Down continues with Mark 3:20-35: “Mothers, Brothers, and Beelzebub.”
Sunday night, December 9 @ 5pm: Legacy Seniors Christmas Banquet @ LPC. Our young adults are getting together to serve a wonderful meal to our Legacy Seniors to celebrate the holidays. This will be an elegant night.
Saturday, December 15 @ 5pm: The Verge will be dressing up snazzy and exchanging Christmas gifts at the young adult Christmas party (see website, lobby, the Verge Facebook page, or The City for more info).
Sunday morning, December 16 @ 9 and 11am: When God Came Down continues with the “Parable of the Sower” in Mark 4:1-20. This is a phenomenal text—looking forward to how it ties in with the incarnation of Jesus.
Wednesday night, December 19 @ 7pm: REV Youth gets in on the Christmas happenings with a smattering of festivities at the final youth service of 2012. This will be a night your high school or middle school student will not want to miss.
Sunday morning, December 23 @ 9 and 11am: This will be a special morning at LPC as we celebrate Christmas. Our text in When God Came Down will be Mark 4:35-41 for the message entitled “From Crying Baby to Peace! Be Still!” You and your family will really enjoy this day at LifePoint. We’ll be singing some special Christmas arrangements from Pastor Tyler and the band, taking communion together, and decking the halls with some candle-light (you’re just going to have to join us to find out what that last phrase means).
Sunday morning, December 30 @ 9 and 11am: When God Came Down closes out with the final passage from Mark 4, verses 21-34.
Additional outreaches all throughout December:
1) Christmas Food Baskets: We are once again blessing families in our community with holiday food baskets. We distributed 43 such baskets for Thanksgiving, and we already have over 60 families in need identified for Christmas. Please check the City, the lobby, or the website for more info. As with Thanksgiving, you can donate food, money, and/or time to put together and hand-deliver these baskets to families in need.
2) Adopt a Family: A number of our life groups are taking part in “Adopt a Family” this Christmas. I believe at this point there are 17 families (and counting) that will be “adopted” by groups or individuals who will be providing Christmas gifts for families who cannot afford to purchase them this year. This is an amazing outreach! We have life groups scheduling shopping days as they hit the stores to pick out gifts for those God is calling them to reach. Pretty cool stuff. Again, lobby, website, and The City for more info.
This will be a month to remember at LPC—please join us as we celebrate When God Came Down as a church family.
