When Messiah Comes…

We’re looking forward to another exciting Sunday this week at LifePoint as we continue “God with Us.” This week we handle the middle passage of three very classic Christmas texts from Isaiah. Last week we knocked out Isaiah 7:1-14 with a message entitled Tiglath-Pileser has nothing on Jesus. This week we take on Isaiah 9:1-7, with a sermon I’ve titled “When Messiah Comes…” On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day I will preach the same message, from Isaiah 11:1-16.

The themes of these three passages focus on the story of Jesus in three distinct ways:

7:1-14: Focus on His birth
9:1-7: Focus on His person
11:1-16: Focus on His kingdom

As we look at the “person” of the Messiah this Sunday, we’ll dive deep into Isaiah 9:6:

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

There are some awesome implications to this text! Join us at 9:30 or 11:30am as we look at what happens in our lives When Messiah Comes…

  1. I just watched a portion of this message, and realized that I misspoke in one of my timelines. The “book of the law” was not rediscovered until about 50-60 years after Ahaz…not before. Josiah came after Ahaz by about 60 years. Ahaz, though, still did have a witness of the word, through Isaiah, and evident by the fact that he did quote Deuteronomy 6. Sorry for the timeline mix-up…
