Communicating in Marriage

Here is my review on a book I read recently called Rick and Jane Learn to Listen and Talk: The First Step to Intimacy.

This is a book about communication in marriage.  The authors, Al and Autumn Ray, are the founding directors of Marriage Team, a non-profit ministry (based here in Vancouver) that trains marriage coaches.

The book is basically a training tool.  It teaches the major principles that Marriage Team coaches use to help couples learn to communicate better.  It is a very quick read, concise and to the point, but engaging with simple illustrations and underlying humor.  As you may have guessed from the title, it is a short narrative about a couple who learn how to listen and talk to each other, vastly improving their intimacy in marriage.

If you’re looking for an academic textbook on marriage communication, you’re not going to find it in this book.  But if you’re looking for something practical, clear, and succinct, this is a great little text.  Marriage Team is a phenomenal ministry that has proven itself in the lives of numerous couples.  They are one of the local ministries that LifePoint supports monthly, and we have a number of marriage coaching couples who are members at LPC.  If you’re interested in Marriage Team, or in this book on marriage communication, click here.
